PLAYBILL® Launches Playbill Passport the First-Ever Mobile Companion to Broadway Playbill Programs

NEW YORK, Jan. 6, 2016 – Playbill Inc., the publisher of the iconic program exclusively servicing all Broadway theatres, announces the launch of its first-ever app called Playbill Passport, a mobile, interactive companion to the classic Playbill magazine.

Playbill has partnered with digital development company Broadway Voice to create Playbill Passport, a state-of-the-art media platform that uses Gimbal’s location and proximity-technology to engage Broadway audiences when they are in the theatre, before the show, during intermission and after the curtain comes down. Inside the theatre, users can simply scan their Playbill cover to access premium content about the show they are seeing and the experiences both inside and outside the theatre that are available to them.

Broadway Voice’s new technology integrates and utilizes Urban Airship’s mobile engagement platform in combination with Gimbal location triggers to greet theatregoers as they enter a theatre and provide personalized content that each theatregoer will find engaging based on their interests. Inside, users will have access to essential practical information about the show they’re seeing (running time, intermission, concession and other services available in the theatre, etc.); myriad premium content about the show, its players and creators including photos, videos, social properties and more; planning tools to find the perfect post-show destination; and an opportunity to digitally archive theatergoing memories—pictures too!—to share on all social platforms.

Playbill Passport is also designed to service those planning their upcoming theatre experiences providing ticketing information, reservation services for restaurants and attractions nearby and more.

Playbill Passport is currently available in the playbill.com/getapp. An Android edition will be launched in 2016.
